Connecting business with science

Traditional course in a new coat

They had no limits to their ideas, innovated the content, chose a playful form and got renowned external lecturers for the course. Who? People from the CeTTAV team. In the spring, the tried and tested training programme, Easy and Fast Transfer, will be presented in a new coat.

During 5 modules over the course of a year, participants will learn the basics of transfer, a young discipline at the intersection of science and business.

“The programme is part of the transfer training, organised by CeTTAV (Centre for Technology Transfer of the CAS), for all CAS employees starting out in transfer who want to quickly orient themselves in the TZT environment.. The aim is to transfer knowledge and practical experience to the participants in a playful and interactive way,” emphasises, Klára Langerová, Head of the Transfer Development Department of CeTTAV, which is responsible for the innovations.

A number of novelties await the participants. What inspired you?

We enriched the original proven training model with new methodologies and supplemented it with trends and inspirations from abroad, e.g. from ASTP Proton, TTO Circle and German scientific institutions. We have new colleagues in the team who have resuscitated, reworked and expanded individual topics. The workshops consist of blocks of theory, interspersed with practical examples and ending with a final exam. Initially we worked more with motivating participants, but new transfer students are already coming to the course with that in mind, so now we are focusing on specific TZT processes. This has opened up the space for more interaction and dealing with specific transfer situations.

What topics will appear in the workshops?

The popular topic of intellectual property has been newly developed by Kateřina Peřinová, our specialist in this area. Participants will learn about the latest trends in the world of search, preparation and filing of applications for trademarks, industrial designs, patents or utility models (national, international or regional). There will also be a choice of the optimal industrial protection strategy with regard to the scope and costs involved. For the licensing module we would like to bring in an external lawyer specialising in transfer. I must not forget the business and economic perspective. This will be shared by Martin Smekal (Head of CeTTAV), who has many years of experience in starting and managing companies.

You gave a lecture last year, will you find time to share your experience in digital marketing this year?

I definitely will and I’m looking forward to it. In the module on marketing, I devote one block to the social network LinkedIn and its use for popularizing transfer. At the same time, I am preparing two new soft skills courses, which will be open to everyone, not only to CAS staff. These are “Presentation Skills for Scientists and Transfer Agents” and “Negotiation”.

Are you at full capacity?

The course is almost full. Traditionally, there is a great interest in it However, we still have a few places available, so don’t hesitate to apply. For more information, please contact Barbora Jedličková z from CeTTAV and the For Scientists section of the CAS Transfer Portal.
