TT Actual – Technological incubation

The next edition of the Transfer Discussion Platform focused on the ambitious CzechInvest Technology Incubation project. The guest of the April edition was Roman Ruffer, the manager who takes care of the project partners and who presented the programme in detail.

After an introductory presentation where he reiterated the main information about the Technology Incubation Programme, he answered questions about the possibilities of using the funding.

Why this topic

The Centre for Technology Transfer of the CAS (CeTTAV) has been selected as an official partner of the programme, which aims to find and support 250 innovative technology startups and develop the startup ecosystem in the Czech Republic.

Within this project, CeTTAV offers cooperation in two areas. It will provide the CAS institutes with the opportunity to engage and apply the spare capacity of laboratories and specialist departments in this project under standard market conditions.

“We also offer direct assistance to academic spin-offs that would like to apply for the programme. We can help with pre-incubation, i.e. preparation for the project, project evaluation and then the application and other steps. Thanks to our status as an official partner, we also offer superior communication support in consultations with project managers,” says Martin Smekal, head of CeTTAV.

According to information from CzechInvestu, the second call will be opened after 1. 5. 2023

What’s in the game

Within the Technology Incubation project, selected technology startups will receive direct support of between CZK 1 100 000 and CZK 4 500 000 for the purchase of services related to the development of their product and indirect support worth CZK 500 000 in the form of workshops, seminars, assistance of incubation managers, consultations with experts in business, technology and incubation lasting up to 2 years.

The project provides systematic assistance to participants who pass through the independent evaluation committee’s network. It offers the possibility of pre-incubation, i.e. help with preparing an application or setting up your own business. Possibility of cooperation and partnership within thematic hubs: the Mobility Innovation Hub, AI Hub, ECO TECH Hub, Creative BIC and in the pipeline are e.g. Space Hub and Tech4Life Hub. Applications where the TRL of the result is 2 or more have a chance of success.

The discussion took particular note of the finances

Roman Ruffer from Czechinvest explained that direct support is money that the company receives on account, the recipient can pay for anything related to incubation and can be charged as a service. The eligibility of expenses will be continuously consulted with the incubation manager.

Indirect support means an incubation package with a fixed value of CZK 500,000. The package includes incubation support – the work of incubation managers, business experts and experts in specific technologies, these people will work with startups for up to two years. In addition, indirect support includes specific workshops, basic legal advice, etc. The incubation package is set up individually for each startup at the start of incubation.
